Shanti, Shanti, Shanti
You will hear me chanting “Shanti” at the end of our yoga classes in Yoga Club, but what does it mean?
"In India we always pronounce the word peace three times: shanti shanti shanti - peace, peace, peace. Why three times? Because peace has at least three dimensions: inner peace, social peace and ecological peace - making peace with yourself, making peace with the world and making peace with nature"
~ Satish Kumar

It is interesting to reflect upon these three dimensions of peace. Let's start with inner peace. Are you at peace within yourself? Is there any inner conflict? Perhaps an internal voice of criticism? Look deeply and then take steps to resolve any inner turmoil, perhaps through forgiveness, self-love and self-acceptance.
What about social peace? In your world, perhaps at your job or in your community, do you make an effort towards peace? Do you employ gentle speech when communicating with others? Do you take time to listen deeply and really understand the other person? These are wonderful elements to reflect upon when considering your contribution to social peace.
What about making peace with Nature? This might be one element of peace that is often overlooked. How can we more peacefully interact with the environment around us? Consider your impact on nature. Is it positive or negative? What can you contribute towards ecological peace? Perhaps consider using less chemicals in your daily life. Get rid of the toxic weed killer and replace it with a more peaceful option. Consider your home cleaning products and perhaps make more peaceful decisions about which cleaners and products you use. Consider the impact your choices have on your environment and vow to create peace in the world.
These 3 dimensions of peace give us each A LOT to reflect upon. In this New Year, let us make the intention to be more peaceful in all aspects of our life.
Much love and best wishes for a Happy New Year,
Jennifer
